{"id":7764,"date":"2021-04-09T14:57:47","date_gmt":"2021-04-09T14:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beststartup.co.uk\/?p=7764"},"modified":"2021-04-25T16:26:46","modified_gmt":"2021-04-25T16:26:46","slug":"government-announces-changes-to-covid-19-boost-working-tax-credits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beststartup.co.uk\/government-announces-changes-to-covid-19-boost-working-tax-credits\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Announces Changes to COVID-19 Boost Working Tax Credits"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Increases to working tax credits &#8211; introduced to help out those suffering financial issues as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic &#8211; will come to an end on April 23rd, as the Treasury trades them for a one off payment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The financial aid initiative, introduced last year by Chancellor Rishi Sunak, saw payments increased by \u00a31,045 to \u00a33,040 from 6 April 2020 until 5 April 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>James Andrews, personal finance expert at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.money.co.uk\/guides\/tax-and-benefits.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">money.co.uk<\/a>, said: \u201cThe Government\u2019s plan to increase working tax credit for households facing financial hardship during the coronavirus pandemic was welcomed by UK families last year. However, the increased payments have now been scrapped, in favour of a one-off \u00a3500 payment on April 23.<\/p><p>\u201cThis pay-out, combined with the extension of the Universal Credit uplift announced earlier in the year, are expected to cost the government a total of \u00a33 billion.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cIf you\u2019re eligible for the payment, you don\u2019t need to do anything as HMRC will contact you by text or a letter this month with details. However, if your bank details have changed in the last year you must inform HMRC to ensure you are properly paid.
